Food Monday – On Amala Escapade in Lekki

Amala in lekki 3

Today’s food monday post is one I have delayed for a bit and now I am super excited to be writing about my discovery. I have been telling myself I really need to dig in on local food discovery which I have been doing lately and then my brother bought the Amala & okra soup that almost changed my weekend :) That is how it all started.

This week’s food discovery is all about Amala aka Abula, Amala feli fell and other names you can have in Lekki #Lekkistayswinning. I went on a full Amala rave last week after having Amala and the baddest Okra with assorted from Owambe Mart in Lekki (the okra was really nice with all the pomo and meat in small bits).

Anyways the rave went on in the afternoon for lunch and I had my brother & cousin join in almost like desperate people we went to 5 places to get different things to complement the Hot Amala lunch we had in mind. It was Amala, Ewedu, gbegiri, Apon and Okra we aimed for so we started from Wole Olateju (Unfortunately Owambe Mart isn’t open during week days) so went to waterfront by Lekki waterside hotel we got Ewedu and plenty meat the meat is N50 and is quiet big (Local joint) then journeyed onto Las gidi bukka because I like their Okra there.

On getting there they did not have okra only Amala which was not an exciting option so we moved on to Grubbies where I know they always have gbegiri but then for some reason the Amala was not ready and neither was gbegiri. The okra was not looking lucious so we made the next stop at Mama Ebo, at mama Ebo they had the lucious Okra with Apon mixed together so it looked really good with the small bits of meat. So we had their Okra and Apon with they nice cow meat, they only charged us for the Amala and meat but the soup/stew came free.

We still needed to get Gbegiri so we made one final stop at Amala Dot com where they just brought in the adogan of Amala and they had Gbegiri. You know yoruba soup with all the pomo and meat it looked good from where we were standing with the oil at the top. The Amala was N100 per serving but the portions where small so you need to buy at least N300 to get something good. I don’t eat so much but I was complaining it was too small (Value for money), the meat was N100 it was also small compared to meat from Waterfront and Mama Ebo. After the tour we got home did mix and match eat all the variety with the Amala and it was worth the tour of 5 places.

The tour made me note down each place for their speciality so I will do waterfront because it is really affordable, I will do Owambe Mart for their Ila alasepo even though it is not the cheapest. I will do Amala Dot com for their Gbegiri and yoruba soup/meat (The Amala was not amazing), I will go to Las Gidi Bukka for their Okra (One of the best) and then Mama Ebo for their Okra/Meat/Apon all all other things.
